A Tribute To Dad When I purchased my 2006 MCS back in 2007, it had 18K miles on the clock, and it is, no question, the most enjoyable and reliable car I have ever owned. I have gradually made some modest performance mods over the last three years (Stratmosphere exhaust, M7 CAI, Rota wheels)... but my most satisfying personalization to the car has been the stripe that Mike at Aesthetic Creations (www.aestheticreations.com) helped me design as a tribute to my Dad’s 1959 AC Ace-Bristol. This is a car that he has owned since the early 1960s and raced frequently in SCCA events and he continues to give it exercise The photos were great, the storyline was interesting, and it just so happens that I know at least three of the gentlemen you featured from the Seattle area. A Super Job goes out to the editor, Peter DuPre. I don’t know if I shared this with you guys or not, but my best friend from high school, Fred, surprised me with a painting a couple of weeks ago. Yes, that’s me when I was about 25 years old standing on Makena Beach in Maui, Hawaii. He added my present classic Mini wagon to the scene. Pretty cool huh? He sent an old Hawaiian postcard along with the painting that said, “There you are, as I remember you, on the shores of Maui many moons ago. Braving the waves. Here with your ‘Beach Buddy’ to transport our boards. I’m right there with ya.” Rick Terrell Longview, WA Top Guns Last year a member of our club, MidCal MINIs, arranged for a group picture of our cars at Lemoore Naval Air Station and MC2 graciously published a picture of our event. It was such a hit that we repeated the trip again this year. John Dunlap, a Master Chief at the Base, and his wife Suzy, coordinated the entire event and ensured that we all received the proper clear- on the track, competing in vintage events. While it took a while for me to finalize this concept on the MINI, I am gratified that it is probably the only modern car that could wear a vintage stripe with such honor and panache. Kevin Lynch Chantilly, VA Great Coverage Just a quick note to say well done! The coverage of both MTTS (MINI Takes The States) and MITM (Minis In The Moun- tains) was well done and I enjoyed reading the stories very much. Thanks go out to Barry, for attending MITM, and thanks for all that you and MC2 Magazine has done for our club and our event. Chuck Maybee MINI5280 Denver, CO ance prior to the arrival of our own squadron. Base personnel were simply wonderful and we all hope that our event helped to brighten their day as well, since many are so far away from home. Master Blaster, our fearless leader at this event (John’s car) is at front and center in the second picture. The last shot is of our MINIs doing their best impression of the Vigilantes aircraft. Watch out for MINI jet blast! Hey, even MINIs can dream can’t they? Karen Bradley MidCal MINIs The article entitled, “The Gathering,” was absolutely fascinat- ing! I thought was extremely interesting and well put together. 20 www.mc2magazine.com your wheels Thanks for the prais s w ith our clas ic, Rick. Y e.
